5 PIECE PAPER x IGNAZIO MORELLO
We have been dying to show you the latest issue of 5 Piece Paper! As you know we are always on the look out for all sorts of creative collaborators such as photographers, stylists and poets! So for each season we pick 6 extraordinary artists who interpret the collection for our printed magazine.
Ignazio Morello is a good friend of ours and this time he created a delicate piece mixed with dark elements, that puts our garments into a very relevant social context. We had a chat with Ignazio... if you prefer shopping more than reading check out his True Romance selection here.
Hi Ignazio! How are you feeling today?
I'm feeling fine.
What are you working on at the moment?
What are you working on at the moment?
I am about to start a series about fishing and fishermen.
Determinism and Other Issues is such an amazing piece of art, how do you feel for the connection between fashion and art?
Determinism and Other Issues is such an amazing piece of art, how do you feel for the connection between fashion and art?
Fashion and art are like brother and sister. And their parents are: human creativity and the context in which we live in. If we look to the history of fashion we can see that art initially influenced fashion, but soon enough the opposite occurred. So this is to say that they are both human creative endeavors and as such must be viewed holistically within the context of human artistic expression. Personally, I feel that a certain level, there is no boundary between the two.
Does commercialism, the fashion industry and media have an impact on your work? If so is it in a good or bad way?
Well, yes...they are part of the context in which I live in and necessarily, for better or for worse, they affect my work. I am not able to describe how they influence me or whether it is a negative or a positive thing, but only that this is what happens. The words of D. F. Wallace come to mind when he said: There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says "Morning, boys. How's the water?" And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes "What the hell is water?"
The Linda skirt and Erin shirt.
